Putin warns of retaliation against Ukraine for Kursk incursion | Latest updates on Russia-Ukraine conflict

Russian President Vladimir Putin has accused Ukraine of trying to undermine Russian stability with a recent incursion into the south of the country. Ukraine’s forces crossed into the Kursk region, leading to a military response from Moscow. Additional Russian troops have been deployed to quash the incursion, with heavy vehicles being mobilized for the operation.

Ukraine’s army chief confirmed that Ukrainian forces are operating inside Kursk, with control over a significant area. President Zelenskyy stated that war was now coming back to Russia after Moscow had taken fighting to other countries.

Meanwhile, false accusations have been made by both sides, with Russia accusing Ukraine of war crimes and Ukraine’s Security Service suggesting that Russia may stage crimes to blame on Ukraine. The situation has escalated, with a Russian air attack outside Kyiv resulting in casualties, and mass evacuations taking place in the Sumy region.

China has called for de-escalation of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, urging against the expansion of the battlefield and the escalation of fighting. While presenting itself as a neutral party in the war, China is a close ally of Russia, leading NATO to brand Beijing as a “decisive enabler” of the war.

The conflict shows no signs of abating, with Ukraine preparing for more Russian attacks in retaliation for its incursion, and both sides accusing each other of starting a fire at a nuclear power station. The situation remains tense, with calls for international intervention to find a political solution to the crisis.
