A couple from Magna, Utah, is facing serious charges of child abuse after police found evidence that the man had been physically abusing the woman’s three boys while she did nothing to stop it. Kristopher Riley North, 34, and Sarah Louise Sorensen, 27, were charged with multiple counts of aggravated child abuse and child abuse. The investigation began in August when police responded to a child abuse report at their home.
According to court documents, North would punish the children by making them do push-ups and physically assaulting them if they did not comply. The abuse included kicking, slapping, and choking the boys. The mother witnessed the abuse but did not seek medical help for the children or report it to the authorities.
North admitted to using physical discipline on the children, including grabbing them by the neck and slapping them. A doctor confirmed that the injuries sustained by the boys were consistent with long-term abuse.
Prosecutors described the actions of the couple as egregious and concerning, with North being the main perpetrator of violence while Sorensen chose to watch the abuse happen and not seek help. The children endured years of abuse under their care.
The couple now faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges related to child abuse, and the case has sparked outrage in the community. Law enforcement officials urge anyone who suspects child abuse to report it immediately to protect the well-being of vulnerable children.
