Israeli military reports five militants killed while hiding in a mosque

The Israeli military conducted a major operation in the occupied West Bank, resulting in the deaths of five militants, including a well-known local commander who was reportedly hiding inside a mosque. This operation raised international alarm, as Israel continues its assault on the Gaza Strip and faces a standoff with Iran, sparking fears of a wider regional conflict. Palestinian health officials reported 11 deaths, while Hamas claimed that 10 of its fighters were killed in various locations. Israel’s Foreign Minister Israel Katz’s comments about implementing measures in the West Bank similar to those in Gaza raised concerns internationally, with the European Union warning against escalating tensions that could lead to further instability in the region. The Israeli authorities identified one of the militants killed as Muhhamad Jabber, known as “Abu Shujaa,” who was the head of a terrorist network accused of carrying out numerous attacks, including the killing of an Israeli man in June. These raids in Tulkarem, Jenin, and Al-Faraa marked the largest Israeli operation in the West Bank since the Second Intifada. The ongoing violence in the region has intensified, with warnings from Iran of retaliation following the assassination of senior Hamas and Hezbollah leaders, highlighting the complexity and volatility of the situation in the Middle East.
