Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals scored his 894th career goal, tying Wayne Gretzky’s record for the most goals in NHL history. The goal came in a game against the Chicago Blackhawks in the third period. Ovechkin, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, has lived up to his potential as an offensive force. He holds several other scoring records, including most power-play goals, most overtime goals, and most goals scored for a single team. Ovechkin has won nine Maurice “Rocket” Richard trophies, three NHL MVP awards, and led the Capitals to a Stanley Cup victory in 2018.
