Alexander Ovechkin equals Wayne Gretzky’s record for most goals in NHL history

Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals scored his 894th career goal, tying Wayne Gretzky’s record for the most goals in NHL history. The goal came in a game against the Chicago Blackhawks in the third period. Ovechkin, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, has lived up to his potential as an offensive force. He holds several other scoring records, including most power-play goals, most overtime goals, and most goals scored for a single team. Ovechkin has won nine Maurice “Rocket” Richard trophies, three NHL MVP awards, and led the Capitals to a Stanley Cup victory in 2018. Despite not making it past the first round of the playoffs since then, the Capitals are currently leading the Eastern Conference and are second in the NHL standings. Ovechkin, now 39 years old, has been playing professionally since 2001 and has a contract with Washington through the 2025-26 season.
