House Democrats list their objectives for the 2026 campaign battle.

House Democrats are targeting 35 Republican-held House seats in districts that President Donald Trump won handily in November in their efforts to regain control of the House in the upcoming midterm elections. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is focusing on districts where recent special election gains have indicated a challenging environment for Republicans. Democrats need a net gain of three seats to win a majority in the House.

The targeted districts include those where former Vice President Kamala Harris carried in the presidential election, as well as battleground districts rated as “tossup” contests. Some districts won handily by Trump are also on the list. Democrats are aiming to capitalize on negative headlines surrounding incumbents in certain Republican-leaning districts, as well as open-seat races that could be more competitive.

On the other hand, Democrats are also defending seats that Trump won in the last election, with the DCCC naming 26 members of the committee’s Frontline program for incumbents facing tough races. The House GOP is also targeting 26 Democratic-held seats in their efforts to maintain their majority.

Both parties are ramping up efforts to secure key House seats, with Democrats looking to make gains in traditionally Republican districts while Republicans are aiming to defend their majority. The 2022 midterm elections are shaping up to be highly competitive, with control of the House hanging in the balance.
