The Idaho Vandal men’s golf team recently finished sixth out of 18 teams at the SeattleU Redhawk Invitational at the Chambers Bay Course. Leading the way was Sam Johnson, who finished fifth overall, marking his second top 10 finish in three weeks. Johnson went one-under for the tournament and recorded 13 birdies, showing strong performance on the difficult course.
Head coach David Nuhn praised Johnson’s performance, highlighting his consistent efforts in practice paying off. Senior Matt McGann also had a strong showing, finishing 19th with a four-over score. The team saw solid performances from Joe Sykes, Josh McCartain, and Dalton Dean as well.
Nuhn expressed satisfaction with the team’s overall performance at Chambers Bay, noting improved ball striking and team comfort on the course. Looking ahead, the Vandals are focusing on addressing some short game needs as they prepare for the Battle for Idaho against Boise State at the Hillcrest Country Club in Boise, home of the Albertsons Boise Open on the Korn Ferry Tour.
