The Boise School District has released the findings of an independent investigation into the suicide of Gavin Snow, a special education assistant who was accused of producing child sexual abuse material. The investigation revealed four specific issues at Valley View Elementary School, including toileting procedures, sensory room management, line of sight, and radio communication.
As a result of the investigation, the district will implement a no-phone policy in restrooms and introduce new guidance and procedures. They will also collaborate with the Boise Police Department for additional training on sexual misconduct and reporting requirements. The district has updated training on indicators of child abuse and will provide Special Education staff district-wide with training on sexual misconduct, Title IX, and respectful workplaces.
Superintendent Lisa Roberts expressed apologies on behalf of the district for the trauma experienced by victims and families, as well as the confusion and anxiety felt by the community. The district is committed to addressing these issues and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all students and staff.
Moving forward, the Boise School District is dedicated to providing a safe and supportive environment for all students and staff. They are taking proactive measures to address the issues identified in the investigation and to improve training and protocols related to sexual misconduct and child abuse reporting.
