Despite a strong start, the Idaho swimming and diving team fell to the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks in a close 167-133 defeat. Second-year standout Ginger Kiefer led the Vandals with four victories, including setting a pool record in the 200 IM. Despite the loss, the Vandals showed their strength by recording seven wins and three runner-up finishes against the defending WAC Champions.
The Vandals started off strong with a win in the 200 medley relay, with Kiefer leading the team to victory. Kiefer continued her dominance with wins in the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke, and setting a pool record in the 200 IM. Ella Haskins also contributed to the Vandals’ success with wins in the 50 and 100 freestyle events.
The 200 free relay team of Madelynn Butler, Grace Rubel, Sydney Heasman, and Haskins closed out the meet with a pool record time of 1:33.78. Despite the loss, the Vandals showed resilience and determination throughout the competition.
Looking ahead, the Vandals will aim to bounce back in a home meet against Seattle U on Saturday, November 9 at 11 a.m. PST. With their strong performances against the Lumberjacks, the Vandals are poised to continue their success in future competitions.
