Idaho’s Zoe Newell led the Vandals to a runner-up team finish at the Bobcat Desert Classic in Goodyear, Arizona. Newell tied for the top spot after finishing eight-under before ultimately earning runner-up honors in a playoff with Montana State’s Lauren Greeny. Emma Kang finished in fourth place with a six-under tournament total, while Emma Heyman climbed into ninth place with a five-under 67 in the final round. Overall, the Vandals finished one-under as a team, coming in second behind Weber State in the tournament.
Head Coach Stephanie Young praised Newell’s performance and the team’s overall success, stating that this showing was the team’s best of the season. The strong performance comes as the team prepares for the Big Sky Conference Championship scheduled for the following week at the Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park, Arizona. The Vandals also had a team win at the Tri-State Invitational earlier in the season.
Young expressed pride in the team’s runner-up finish, highlighting the momentum they have heading into the conference tournament. Idaho’s under-par team performance at the Bobcat Desert Classic demonstrates their potential and sets a positive tone for the upcoming championship event.
