Ziya Munyer of Lakeland and Garrett Leonard of Lake City were awarded Female and Male Athletes of the Year, respectively, at the 62nd North Idaho Athletic Hall of Fame Awards Banquet. Munyer secured the state triple jump title and was also a standout volleyball player, while Leonard went undefeated in wrestling and won the state 6A title. The event honored athletes, teams, and coaches from 29 high schools and three colleges in North Idaho.
The North Idaho Hall of Fame awards recognizes outstanding play in various sports, with special awards presented to former area high school graduates excelling outside of North Idaho. The event also saw five new members inducted into the Hall of Fame. Other notable awards included Kendra Meyer of Genesee and David Kludt of Kamiah being named Female and Male Athletes of the Year in the 4A-1A classification.
In addition to individual awards, team awards were also presented, with Coeur d’Alene cross country and Sandpoint tennis and swimming being recognized as Girls Teams of the Year, and Kendrick football and Bonners Ferry basketball receiving honors as Boys Teams of the Year. Coaches such as Kent Anderson and Greg Jackson from Sandpoint were recognized for leading their teams to state titles.
The evening also included the announcement of the fifth annual Hagadone High Character Award winners, who exemplify outstanding qualities both on and off the field. Overall, the event celebrated the achievements of athletes and coaches from the North Idaho region across various sports and disciplines.
