The Idaho Falls Spud Kings secured the NCDC Mountain Division title and earned a spot in the Dineen Cup Championships with a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory over the Mustangs in Ogden, Utah. Despite trailing in five of their first six playoff games, the Spuds managed to tie the series 1-1 and secure a must-win Game 3 victory. In Game 4, they fell behind early only to equalize with a goal from Andrew Schmidt assisted by Bronson Sabol and Easton Edwards. The game remained tied at 1-1 until Leo Mantenuto scored the game-winner in overtime, assisted by Edwards and William Donovan. Goalie Charlie Durkin was exceptional, saving 37 out of 38 shots on goal. The South Shore Kings have also advanced to the championships, while the Mercer Chiefs and P.A.L. Junior Islanders are tied in the Atlantic Division Finals. The Dineen Cup Championships will feature a double-elimination tournament beginning on April 25 to determine this season’s cup champion.
