88 Years of Tradition to be Celebrated at Easter Sunrise Service at Lizard Butte

The Lizard Butte Easter Sunrise Association in Canyon County, Idaho is gearing up for its 88th annual Easter Sunrise Service along the Snake River near Marsing. The tradition, dating back to 1938, brings together hundreds of Idahoans who gather on the hillside before dawn to celebrate with music and prayer.

Board member Jim Eisentrager describes the experience as incredible, with the service carefully timed so that the sun rises just as the service begins. The event draws around 800-900 cars, with gates opening at 5 a.m. to allow attendees to start making their way up the hill. Lights and reflectors guide visitors to parking spots, and a handicap section is available for those who need assistance.

Eisentrager emphasizes the unifying nature of the event, with thousands of people coming together to worship Jesus. As the sun rises over the hill, the crowd is bathed in light, creating a truly memorable and spiritual experience for all in attendance.

This year’s Easter Sunrise Service promises to be a special occasion, continuing a long-standing tradition that is cherished by the community. The Lizard Butte Easter Sunrise Association invites everyone to join them in celebrating the resurrection of Jesus in this unique and awe-inspiring setting.
