Blackfoot stages comeback to defeat championship contender Hillcrest

In a thrilling match-up at Blackfoot High School, the Blackfoot Broncos took on the Hillcrest Knights in a scintillating game that ended with a 52-50 victory for Blackfoot. Despite facing a veteran team with a roster full of seniors, Blackfoot, a team with no seniors, managed to come out on top. Led by junior Austin Arave and Kasen Sorensen, Blackfoot fought hard throughout the game, with Austin scoring 19 points and Sorensen grabbing 11 rebounds.

The game was neck and neck, with both teams trading leads until the final minutes. Sorensen made a tough, contested shot to give Blackfoot a 52-50 lead with less than a minute remaining. The Broncos managed to hold off a late charge from the Knights, securing the win and improving their record to 4-4, 2-0 in conference play.

Head coach Clint Arave praised his young team for their effort and resilience throughout the game, emphasizing the importance of players like Austin Arave who showed skill and discipline beyond their years. The victory over Hillcrest marks a significant achievement for Blackfoot, who now find themselves tied with Bonneville at the top of the 5A High Country Conference standings.

Looking ahead, Blackfoot will face Bonneville in their next game, aiming to build on their recent success and continue moving forward in the season. Despite the challenges of facing more experienced teams, the Broncos have shown that they have the talent and determination to compete at a high level.
