Bryan Kohberger Case: Surviving Roommate Initially Mistook Murder Victim for Being Unconscious

Details Emerge in University of Idaho Quadruple Homicide Case

In a shocking development in the University of Idaho quadruple homicide case, new court documents reveal alarming details from the night of the tragic events. Bryan Kohberger, a former criminology Ph.D. student, faces charges of first-degree murder in the deaths of four students: Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, Madison Mogen, and Ethan Chapin.

Surviving roommates D.M. and B.F. returned home early on November 13, 2022, after a night out. At approximately 4:00 a.m., D.M. reported hearing unusual noises, including cries, from the bathroom. Shockingly, she later encountered a masked man dressed in black. Following this sighting, she attempted to contact her roommates but received no response.

At 4:17 a.m., D.M. found Kernodle lying on the floor of her bedroom. Initially, she thought Kernodle was intoxicated. D.M. then contacted B.F., triggering a series of frantic text exchanges. By 4:32 a.m., D.M. was increasingly anxious, reaching out to the victims—but to no avail.

The timeline reveals the grim sequence of events: Kohberger allegedly entered the home around 4:00 a.m. and the murders occurred within the next 17 minutes. Alarmingly, digital forensic experts reported "abnormal" gaps in Kohberger’s electronics, possibly indicating attempts to erase evidence. Witnesses, including a crime scene analyst, suggested that efforts were made to clean up the crime scene after the killings.

Judge Steven Hippler has ruled the analyses admissible during trial, alongside the roommates’ 911 call. As the case unfolds, families and the community continue to seek justice for the slain students, with the trial expected to shine a light on the investigation’s findings and the events of that fateful night.
