Idaho Fish and Game Investigates Illegal Pronghorn Killing

ABERDEEN, ID – The Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) is calling for public assistance in the investigation of an illegal pronghorn killing in southeast Idaho. A passerby discovered a deceased adult pronghorn doe near the intersection of Gehring Road and Lava Beds Road, approximately 200 yards from the roadway in a cultivated field.

Conservation officers with IDFG estimate that the animal was shot with a rifle between April 4 and April 11. The incident is particularly concerning as it involves a closed-season take of the pronghorn and the wasteful destruction of its carcass, violations that undermine wildlife conservation efforts.

IDFG is urging anyone who might have information about this incident to come forward. Tips can be directed to Senior Conservation Officer Mitch Newhouse at (208) 576-1752, or through the Citizens Against Poaching (CAP) hotline at 1-800-632-5999. Callers have the option to remain anonymous, and those who provide information that leads to an arrest could qualify for a reward.

The agency emphasizes the importance of protecting Idaho’s wildlife and is committed to ensuring that those responsible for such unlawful acts are held accountable. Public awareness and vigilance are essential in safeguarding the state’s natural resources for future generations.
