Idaho Vandals Announce Signing of Transfer Guard Kyra Gardner

MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho Vandals Women’s Basketball team has officially welcomed transfer guard Kyra Gardner, as announced by Head Coach Arthur Moreira on Wednesday. Gardner, a 5’11" native of Raymond, Washington, joins the Vandals after a successful three-season stint with the Washington State Cougars.

During her time at Washington State, Gardner participated in 90 games, showcasing her skills with impressive shooting splits of .383/.310/.760 while averaging 1.3 rebounds per game. She played an integral role in the Cougars’ journey to winning the PAC-12 Championship and reaching the NCAA tournament. Gardner’s experience includes competing in seven national postseason tournament games, marking her as a seasoned asset for the Vandals in the upcoming season.

Gardner’s remarkable background includes her accolades from high school, where she was named the 2021-22 Gatorade Washington Girls Basketball Player of the Year and the WIAA Class 2B Player of the Year. During her senior year at Raymond High School, she averaged an impressive 26.7 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 7.0 steals per game, finishing her high school career as the all-time leader in points (1,906) and steals (584). Additionally, she excelled in track and field and volleyball, earning the title of the 2021 2B Pacific League MVP in volleyball.

This signing marks the Vandals’ fourth addition from the transfer portal, reinforcing their roster for the upcoming season. Coach Moreira expressed his enthusiasm about Gardner’s potential, stating she will be a challenging matchup for conference opponents and will fit seamlessly into the team’s playing style.
