Successful Turnout at Western Kentucky Botanical Garden’s Annual Plant Sale & Gardeners Market
Owensboro, KY — Perfect weather lured a large crowd to the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden’s annual Plant Sale & Gardeners Market on Saturday, showcasing a vibrant array of plants and crafts. Attendees browsed through tables filled with native and non-native perennials, herbs, and various tomato plants, as local vendors offered unique products amidst the garden’s scenic backdrop.
Cathy Schmitt, co-chair of the event and former Master Gardener of the Year, emphasized the hard work that went into organizing the sale. "The crowd has been great; thank goodness the sun is out today," she stated. Schmitt highlighted the improved quality of plants this year, crediting local growers for their exceptional offerings. "We’ve sold a lot of natives, which we are really encouraging people to buy, as they support pollinators like bees and butterflies."
Regenia Sims, another co-chair and past president of the master gardeners, praised the event’s diversity of attendees. "We’ve got so many new and experienced gardeners sharing native plants with the world," she noted. Joyce Riney, the current Master Gardener of the Year, expressed delight in the high sales, stating, "It’s great; we’ve emptied so many tables."
Several vendors reported positive interactions with shoppers. Anna Weber, owner of Anna Weber’s Creations, mentioned a steady stream of visitors at her booth, while Madison Love of River Blossoms Flower Farm highlighted the community spirit among fellow master gardeners.
Overall, the event was a lively celebration of gardening, fostering knowledge and appreciation for sustainable practices within the community.
