Idaho Vandals Gearing Up for Big West Golf Championship
MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho Vandal men’s golf team is set to compete for the Big West Conference title this week at the La Quinta Country Club in La Quinta, California, marking their first championship in this conference since fully leaving after the 2004-05 season.
Leading the team is reigning Big Sky Individual champion Joe Sykes. He is joined by Dalton Dean occupying the No. 1 spot and senior Matt McGann playing at No. 2 in what will be his final conference championship appearance. Sam Johnson, fresh off a runner-up finish at the Battle of Idaho, will compete from the No. 3 position, while Josh McCartain rounds out the lineup as the fourth golfer.
The Vandals will tee off at 11:40 a.m., with a live leaderboard available via Scoreboard by Clippd.
La Quinta Country Club is renowned for hosting prestigious PGA Tour events. Players will benefit from wide fairways but must exercise precision with their approach shots, given the fast, undulating greens that can quickly penalize errors. Additionally, unpredictable winds may add to the challenge, especially as the competition intensifies. The course is a Par-72 and spans 7,060 yards.
The stakes are high, as the winning team will secure an automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals held at six locations nationwide from May 12-14. Furthermore, standout individual performances could lead to additional at-large selections, enhancing the competitive spirit of this critical championship. The Vandals are poised for a strong showing in their return to Big West competition.
