49ers Sign George Kittle to Record $76.4 Million Deal, Making Him NFL’s Highest-Paid Tight End

George Kittle has secured a landmark four-year contract extension with the San Francisco 49ers, making him the highest-paid tight end in NFL history. Announced on the “Bussin’ With The Boys” podcast, the deal is valued at $76.4 million, featuring $35 million guaranteed upon signing. This agreement extends Kittle’s contract with the 49ers through the 2029 season, marking his continued presence as the last original member of the draft class under head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch.

Lynch expressed his pride in Kittle, noting how the team recognized his potential as a somewhat unassuming talent from Iowa in 2017. Over the years, Kittle has grown into a vital player, exemplifying leadership and community involvement. His new contract sets a new record with an average annual value of $19.1 million, surpassing the previous record of $19 million established earlier this offseason by Arizona’s Trey McBride. Kittle’s guaranteed money is also the highest ever for a tight end.

While Kittle initially delayed joining the team’s voluntary offseason program, he later returned, signaling impending contract negotiations. The quick resolution of Kittle’s extension contrasts with previous extended negotiations that delayed other players like Deebo Samuel and Nick Bosa during training camps.

Kittle’s performance is noteworthy; he has been recognized as an All-Pro five times and has made six Pro Bowls in eight seasons. His records include four seasons of over 1,000 receiving yards, and he currently ranks second all-time for tight ends in receiving yards through eight seasons, with 7,380 yards and 45 touchdowns since his 2017 draft.
