Idaho State Board Extends Football Coach Jason Eck’s Contract Through 2028

Moscow, Idaho – The Idaho State Board of Education has approved a two-year contract extension for Jason Eck, head coach of the Vandal football team, extending his leadership through the 2028 season.

Reflecting on the team’s progress, Eck expressed excitement about continuing his journey at the University of Idaho. "We are not content. Our sights are set on bringing a championship to Moscow," he stated, highlighting his commitment to the community and appreciation for President Scott Green and Athletic Director Terry Gawlik.

Under Eck’s guidance, the Vandals have achieved significant milestones, including back-to-back playoff appearances and a quarterfinal showing in 2023. His impressive record stands at 16-9 overall, with a remarkable 12-4 in conference play—one of the strongest two-year records in the program’s history, surpassing legends like Dennis Erickson.

Eck’s tenure has seen standout performances, including a dominant 33-6 victory over FBS Nevada and notable wins against top-ranked opponents. The Vandals have a commendable 5-3 record against ranked teams during his first two seasons.

Off the field, the program also excels academically, setting a record team GPA of 3.31 in spring 2023, further enhancing the university’s reputation. Gawlik praised Eck for elevating both athletic and academic standards and mentioned the anticipation for the upcoming season.

Eck has also been recognized for his community contributions, receiving accolades such as the Mid-Season Big Sky Coach of the Year and the Moscow Elks Lodge’s Citizen of the Year. His dedication extends to recruiting, with the Vandals landing top-10 FCS classes in 2023 and 2024.

The Vandals are set to kick off the 2024 season against Oregon on August 31, with fall camp commencing in late July.
