Madison High Students Present Innovative Business Concepts for $5,000 Prize

Invest Nest Empowers Young Innovators in Rexburg

Rexburg is quickly becoming a hub for young entrepreneurial talent through the Invest Nest program, which provides Madison High School students the opportunity to pitch their business ideas to esteemed judges and experienced local mentors. The competition culminates in a chance to win $5,000 for business development, along with the opportunity to compete for a $20,000 prize in Utah.

Initiated by business teacher Jennifer Barzee, Invest Nest has evolved from a concept inspired by the popular TV show Shark Tank. Following last year’s success, the program expanded this year with added support and funding, facilitating a series of competitions that engaged students in refining their business pitches.

On Wednesday evening, the public Round 3 event showcased ten finalists presenting innovative ideas ranging from AI tools for dyslexia support to various service and product-based businesses. Participants, including sophomore James Patten, highlighted their passion for entrepreneurship, impressing judges like Mack Wible of Textile Graphix with their creativity and business acumen.

The event notably featured a surge of female participation, with approximately half of the presenters being young women—a promising sign for gender equality in entrepreneurship. Judges and sponsors, including Andrew Rail from Assist Care, expressed admiration for the students stepping out of their comfort zones to embrace this challenge.

Beyond monetary rewards, the real significance of Invest Nest lies in nurturing creativity and ambition among young achievers. The event aims to motivate students to pursue their dreams, providing a vital support system to help them succeed in their entrepreneurial journeys.

The competition took place at the Madison Performing Arts Center, where the community gathered to witness the next generation of innovators on display.
