Trial for 20-Year-Old Accused of Northgate Mile Murder Delayed Until July

Robert Lange’s Murder Trial Delayed for Mediation

IDAHO FALLS — The trial of Robert Lange, a 20-year-old charged with second-degree murder, has been postponed following his decision to waive the right to a speedy trial. Lange stands accused of fatally assaulting 50-year-old Alejandro Paredes-Hurtado, leading to his death days after the incident.

Originally scheduled to begin this week, the trial was rescheduled at the request of Lange’s attorney, who urged District Judge Joel E. Tingey to allow time for mediation. A pre-trial conference is now set for July 8, with the jury trial scheduled for July 21 at 10 a.m.

The incident occurred on October 19, when police responded to reports of a man with serious injuries on Northgate Mile. Paredes-Hurtado was transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries days later. Video released by the Idaho Falls Police Department revealed the aftermath of the assault, with Paredes-Hurtado found unconscious and Lange seen leaving the scene.

Lange turned himself in to authorities two days later and, during questioning, admitted to being drunk and “mad” prior to the confrontation. He claimed Paredes-Hurtado had approached him, prompting him to kick and subsequently punch the victim around 20 times until realizing he was unconscious. Lange left the scene afterward, stating that Paredes-Hurtado did not strike him.

As the case progresses, the community remains attentive to developments in this significant legal matter.
