Press Release: Upcoming Way Out West Weekend Celebrates Equestrian Culture in Ramona
Ramona, CA – Mark your calendars for the Way Out West Weekend on May 17 and 18, a vibrant celebration of Western lifestyle featuring family-friendly rodeo and competitive equestrian events. Hosted at the Fred Grand Arena in the Ramona Outdoor Community Center, the event runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days, with free admission.
Highlights include barrel racing, pole bending, and team penning, along with engaging equine wellness presentations, vendor booths showcasing Western wear and equipment, and a BBQ snack bar operated by the Ramona Rodeo Foundation. Event organizers Selena Roberts, Jeanne Malone, and Rachelle Laws emphasize that part of the proceeds will support educational scholarships and local nonprofits.
The weekend kicks off on May 17 with the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association-approved barrel racing jackpot, featuring $1,500 in added prizes. Young riders also have opportunities to compete in various categories. At 1 p.m., the Miss Ramona Rodeo court will perform a flag presentation, followed by a series of action-packed horse races.
On May 18, the inaugural Steve Tellam Memorial Team Penning Event will take place, honoring the late cattleman and community steward. With categories for riders of all ages, this family-friendly competition offers a taste of ranch life and allows for social engagement among participants.
In addition, health and wellness clinics featuring expert speakers will provide horse owners valuable insights into equine osteopathy and other therapies throughout both days.
