Fort Hall Man Sentenced to 100 Months for Fentanyl Distribution
POCATELLO, IDAHO – Creston Dale Kindness, a 42-year-old resident of Fort Hall, has been sentenced to 100 months in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, as announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Justin Whatcott.
On January 21, 2024, local law enforcement officers initiated a high-speed pursuit after observing Kindness driving recklessly. The chase ended when his vehicle became immobilized in snow, leading to his arrest. While at the jail, a deputy noticed Kindness making a video call to a female friend, during which he confessed to tossing a bag with her name on it from the car during the chase. After providing her with the bag’s location, officers recovered it, finding a significant pile of cash along with 350 grams of fentanyl pills.
Kindness pleaded guilty to the charges on June 24, 2024. Along with his prison sentence, Chief U.S. District Judge David C. Nye mandated that he serve an additional five years of supervised release post-incarceration.
Acting U.S. Attorney Whatcott recognized the collaborative efforts of various law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office, and state police, in bringing the case to a successful conclusion. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jack Haycock led the prosecution.
The case underscores the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in Idaho, particularly as fentanyl has become an escalating concern nationwide, prompting law enforcement officials to intensify their efforts in combatting this issue.
