Two Eastern Idaho Men Sentenced for Child Pornography Crimes
IDAHO FALLS — Two men from eastern Idaho have received prison sentences for possession of child pornography, as confirmed by Idaho’s Attorney General. Skylar Reed, 25, and Seth Tanaka, 23, pleaded guilty to two counts each and were sentenced on February 28.
Skylar Reed initially faced ten counts of possession but entered a plea agreement on February 3, resulting in the dismissal of eight counts. District Judge Robert Naftz sentenced him in Bannock County to two and a half years of fixed prison time, followed by seven and a half years indeterminate. Court records reveal that an investigation commenced after a Boise Police detective alerted the Pocatello Police Department. Reed had allegedly accessed child porn through social media apps like Discord and Kik. During his interrogation, he acknowledged his addiction to pornography, transitioning from adult to child materials. Evidence from his phones indicated the possession of numerous disturbing files.
Seth Tanaka was sentenced to three years fixed and seven years indeterminate by District Judge Michael Whyte in Bonneville County. Originally facing five felony charges, he saw three counts dropped through a plea deal. A cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children led to law enforcement intervention, resulting in the seizure of electronic devices associated with Tanaka. His phone reportedly contained multiple nude images of girls aged 11 to 14. Tanaka confessed that his Snapchat account, which was terminated, was used to view child porn.
Both cases highlight ongoing concerns about child exploitation and the legal system’s response to such crimes in Idaho.
