Surprise Lollipop Delivery Leaves Kentucky Mom in a Bind
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Holly LaFavers of Lexington found herself unexpectedly overwhelmed when boxes of Dum-Dum lollipops arrived at her doorstep, the result of a surprise Amazon order placed by her 8-year-old son, Liam. The young boy had innocently decided to order approximately 70,000 lollipops to use as prizes for a carnival he wanted to hold for his friends.
Despite LaFavers’ efforts to cancel the order once she realized Liam was accessing her phone, it was too late. The delivery included 22 cases, leading to a shocking discovery when she checked her bank account—it showed a charge nearing $4,000. “When I saw what the number was, I just about fainted,” LaFavers shared, emphasizing her anxiety as she anticipated even more boxes still in transit.
After sorting through the chaos, which included additional unaccounted cases, LaFavers visited the local post office where those lingering boxes were ultimately returned. While navigating the refund process proved challenging, her persistence paid off. “After a long day of working with the bank and talking to a few news stations, Amazon called and they are refunding my money,” she later posted on social media.
This amusing yet stressful incident has prompted LaFavers to update her phone settings to prevent further unexpected orders, ensuring that her next surprise won’t come with a hefty price tag. The story serves as a cautionary tale for parents about the potential pitfalls of technology and unmonitored online shopping.
LaFavers’ experience highlights the sometimes humorous chaos of parenting and the surprises that can come with it.
