On Monday, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested Daniel Orellana, a 25-year-old Guatemalan man with no prior criminal record, at a gas station in Framingham, Massachusetts. The incident occurred around 6 a.m. when Orellana was on his way to work. His family is demanding justice, asserting he was wrongfully detained. Daniel’s father, Arquimedes Orellana, emphasized his son’s innocence, recounting that ICE agents approached Daniel and questioned him about someone else, to which he responded he did not know that person.
Witness Enrique Martinez, a gas station worker, confirmed that the arrest occurred inside the premises and that Daniel’s vehicle was left behind after the incident. After several hours of searching, the family located Daniel’s vehicle and later received a call from him, informing them of his detention by ICE. His girlfriend, Zulema Alfaro, noted that Daniel communicated concerns about the misunderstanding, yet ICE proceeded with the arrest.
The Orellana family fled violence in Guatemala three years ago. Daniel was nearing graduation with a law degree, aspiring to build a better life in the U.S., though he lacked documentation. While supporting government efforts for national improvement, Arquimedes criticized the unjust treatment of innocent individuals contributing positively to society.
Currently, Daniel is detained at an immigration center in Plymouth, and his family is working with a lawyer to resolve the situation. They remain hopeful for a quick resolution that will allow him to return home. Telemundo Nueva Inglaterra has reached out for information from ICE regarding the arrest but has yet to receive a response.
