Woman Rescued After Driving Off Cliff Near Snake River
AMERICAN FALLS — In a remarkable survival story, a woman was rescued after her vehicle plunged off a cliff in a remote area near the Snake River. The incident occurred Tuesday night, but the car was not discovered until Wednesday morning, when a passing boater spotted the woman amid the wreckage.
According to a news release from the Power County Sheriff’s Office, the deputies responded to the incident at Massacre Rocks State Park around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Due to the challenging terrain and isolation of the location, a coordinated rescue operation involved multiple agencies. Emergency personnel from the Power County Sheriff’s Office, American Falls Police Department, Power County Search and Rescue, Air Rescue, Idaho Fish and Game, Fort Hall Fish and Game Boat Rescue, and Power County Ambulance services worked together to successfully reach the victim.
The woman sustained injuries and was transported by air ambulance to a nearby hospital for further medical assessment. The Power County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that an investigation into the crash is ongoing. They also expressed gratitude for the prompt actions of the boat passenger whose alertness played a crucial role in the woman’s rescue.
In their statement, the sheriff’s office urged the public to exercise caution when navigating remote and rugged areas. “We commend the swift and coordinated efforts of all responding agencies,” they noted, highlighting the collaboration that facilitated the successful outcome of the rescue operation.
As the investigation continues, more details will be released in upcoming updates from EastIdahoNews.com.
