BYU-Idaho Student Makes Remarkable Recovery After Industrial Accident
IDAHO FALLS — Israel Garcia, a 26-year-old student at BYU-Idaho, is showing significant improvement after suffering severe injuries in an industrial accident on April 30. Garcia was rushed to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center (EIRMC) after being crushed by a stack of large steel beams—approximately 12 to 15 beams weighing over 100 pounds each—at the BYU-Idaho Mark Austin Building’s machine fabrication shop.
Initially reported to have minimal brain function and requiring life support, Garcia’s condition has notably improved over the past ten days. His mother, Carol Garcia, expressed profound gratitude, attributing their family’s hope and recovery to divine intervention. “We are indeed so very blessed. This is a miracle that will continue to grow, and it is all in and for the glory of God,” she stated.
The Garcias, who reside in Idaho Falls, have been by Israel’s side throughout his hospitalization. Recent updates reveal that he is now able to sit up, place his feet on the ground, and communicate, recalling memories and demonstrating physical movement. His progress is being celebrated by his family, with Carol referencing their faith as central to their resilience. “It is for testifying of the divinity and majesty of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior…,” she remarked.
Despite these encouraging signs, Israel remains in critical condition. The circumstances leading to the accident are currently under investigation by local authorities.
