Idaho Falls Man Arrested After High-Speed Chase and SWAT Standoff
IDAHO FALLS — Lucas James, a 40-year-old man from Idaho Falls, was arrested Saturday evening following a high-speed chase that occurred the previous night. The arrest stemmed from a felony probation violation warrant and took place at a residence on Burlwood Drive, after police secured a search warrant.
Around 5:30 p.m., officers from the Idaho Falls Police Department utilized an armored vehicle, known as a Bearcat, to approach the house. As police announced their presence, James attempted to escape through a back door but was quickly apprehended in the backyard by law enforcement.
James is now facing multiple charges related to the high-speed pursuit that ended with a two-vehicle crash on Yellowstone Highway and Pancheri Drive late Friday night. Police discovered drugs, drug paraphernalia, and firearms within the vehicle James was reportedly operating.
The charges against him include felony eluding, three counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, felony possession of a controlled substance, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. After his arrest, James was taken to Bonneville County Jail.
Authorities continue their investigation, and more details regarding the incident and possible implications for James are expected to emerge in the coming days.
