State Tournament Berths Decided in Thrilling District 6 Baseball and Softball Showdowns

In an action-packed Saturday, District 6 baseball teams finalized their best-of-three play-in series, determining state tournament berths. Defending 4A champion Sugar-Salem triumphed over Homedale twice, securing their spot aimed at a repeat title. Bonneville also advanced in the 5A series after a solid performance, while other 6A teams faced elimination.

In 6A baseball, Mountain View took an early lead against Madison, ending the game 9-4 with a standout performance from Alex Ramos, who notched two doubles and two RBIs. Skyline’s quest came to an end after a tightly contested match against Twin Falls, falling short with a 4-3 loss courtesy of a last-minute run.

The 4A Sugar-Salem Diggers defeated Homedale 6-1, where Jack Gardner’s two-run triple and solid pitching from Dawson McInelly showcased their dominance. Firth held on against Challis-Mackay, winning 10-9, but was ultimately eliminated by Nampa Christian in a subsequent match, losing 9-2. North Fremont’s season ended with an 8-1 defeat by New Plymouth.

In softball, Rocky Mountain’s Tayler Klocko delivered the decisive hit in the bottom of the seventh, clinching an 8-7 victory over Thunder Ridge and ending the Titans’ season. Meanwhile, Pocatello snatched a 5A state berth by defeating Bonneville 7-6 with a game-winning single by Jordy Snell in a thrilling last-at-bat scenario.

As teams celebrate their victories, others reflect on their hard-fought seasons. The stage is set for the state tournaments, with anticipation for more excitement on the horizon.
