Bonneville Bees Advance to 5A State Baseball Tournament After Dominating Play-In Series
IDAHO FALLS – The Bonneville Bees are heading to the state baseball tournament for the seventh consecutive year after defeating Mountain Home 8-3 on Saturday in a decisive play-in series. This year introduced a best-of-3 format, and the Bees showcased their grit by clinching victory with a pivotal win against Mountain Home, who had previously lost to Pocatello.
The championship match saw Mountain View score first, but Bonneville quickly took charge with timely hits from Taye Lords and Tyson Christensen. Coltan Spagnuolo shined on the mound, allowing only one run in 2.1 innings before Jackson Ropp finished the game, surrendering just one run over 3.2 innings. Coach Ryan Alexander expressed his approval of the new tournament format, highlighting that it provided deserving teams a chance to compete.
The Bees enter the state tournament on an impressive eight-game winning streak, having showcased strong offensive performances, including double-digit runs on six occasions. Bonneville’s defense was equally strong in these crucial playoff games, allowing only two earned runs against Mountain Home and shutting out Pocatello in a prior match.
With a seasoned team consisting of four seniors and five juniors, Bonneville is poised for a deep run in the postseason. Coach Alexander acknowledged the high expectations surrounding the program and noted the importance of the upcoming challenges. “This was the second-to-last step,” he stated.
The Bees, with a record of 24-3, are set to compete against Skyview at 7 p.m. in the 5A state championship tournament at Wolfe Field in Caldwell, while Twin Falls and Vallivue open the tournament at 4 p.m. Meanwhile, Pocatello concluded their season with a record of 11-18.
