New Historical Fiction Uncovers the True Stories of Immigrants Who Shaped the Transcontinental Railroad

Historical Tale of Immigration: David Jacinto’s New Novel Explores Legacy of the Wright Family

Idaho Falls—David Jacinto, inspired by his family’s history, has penned a captivating historical novel titled Where Eagles Fly Free, released on May 6 as the second entry in his Courageous series. The novel centers on Thomas and Annie Wright, who migrated from the British Isles to the United States during a pivotal period in the 19th century.

In a recent interview, Jacinto shared how his personal journey, ignited by his mother’s passing in 2021, led him to uncover the story of the Wright family. Their tale begins shortly after the U.S. Civil War, navigating through Idaho before settling in California. The book intricately blends fact and fiction, presenting real events and characters while exploring the interpersonal dynamics of the Wrights.

The couple’s journey begins in June 1868 aboard the Brigantine Colorado, as they seek the promises of freedom and opportunity in America. This period saw significant developments, such as the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad in 1869, which marked a transformative era in U.S. history. The railroad connected the nation and facilitated rapid communication, propelling the West toward modernization.

Jacinto’s research reveals Thomas’s humble beginnings in coal mines and his later advocacy against child labor, alongside Annie’s ties with notable figures like Brigham Young and connections to Indigenous tribes, including the Shoshone. These intertwining narratives highlight the Wrights’ influence on America’s foundation.

Jacinto will host a book signing at Barnes & Noble in Idaho Falls on May 24 at 1 p.m. Where Eagles Fly Free is now available for purchase, offering readers a detailed glimpse into an essential yet often overlooked chapter of American history.
