Louisiana State Police have arrested 59-year-old Connie Weeden from Slidell, accused of aiding 10 inmates in a jailbreak from Orleans Parish Jail on May 16. She is the third woman implicated in the escape, charged with one count of being an accessory after the fact. Weeden was processed at the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center, though it remains unclear if she has legal representation.
The investigation has led to the capture of five of the escapees, while five others are still unaccounted for. Prior to Weeden’s arrest, two other women, Cortnie Harris and Corvanntay Baptiste, were arrested for similar charges related to the jailbreak. Additionally, a maintenance worker, Sterling Williams, was detained for allegedly disabling the prison cell’s water supply, facilitating the inmates’ escape through a hole created by removing a toilet.
Authorities found that Weeden had contact with the fugitive Jermaine Donald both before and after the escape, including transferring cash to him via a mobile app following the incident. If convicted, she and the other arrested individuals face a potential sentence of up to five years in prison.
Police are committed to pursuing all leads until the remaining escapees are apprehended and emphasized that those aiding fugitives will be held accountable under the law. They have also encouraged the public to provide information about the escapees, offering a reward of up to $20,000 for tips that lead to further arrests. The search for the missing inmates may extend into its second week, with local, state, and federal officers involved in the ongoing investigation.
