Chobani Launches Summer Meal Program for Local Children in Twin Falls
TWIN FALLS, Idaho — In a heartwarming initiative to combat child hunger during the summer months, Chobani has partnered with local organizations to distribute meal kits every Friday at Twin Falls City Park. The program, aptly named the Chobani Summer Program, kicked off recently and will run for 13 weeks until August 15.
Carla Flores from the Chobani communication team highlighted the pressing issue of food insecurity facing children when school is out. "Many nutrition programs allow children to pick up meals from Monday to Friday, but weekends often lack adequate food options," she explained.
To fill this gap, Chobani aims to distribute over 550 meal kits each week. Each kit contains two breakfasts, two lunches, four snacks, three fresh items, and Chobani’s nutritious Super Milk, ensuring children receive essential nourishment.
Community members like Julianne DeLosada applaud the effort, expressing gratitude for the support amidst rising food prices. "It’s an absolute blessing that they are offering this for my grandkids," she said. Children participating in the program echoed this sentiment, calling it "awesome" that free food is available.
Beyond meeting immediate dietary needs, the program offers children a chance to enjoy their summer while alleviating potential stigma associated with receiving assistance. "We want children to feel comfortable picking up meals and having fun at the park," Carla stated.
Eligibility is open; those in need are encouraged to come and collect meals for children they know. The Chobani Summer Program runs every Friday from noon to 1:30 p.m., reinforcing a commitment to the well-being of youth in the Magic Valley community.
