Local Talent Shines at Middle School All-American Game
IDAHO FALLS — Hunter Portmann, a standout eighth-grade football player from Idaho Falls, has been selected to participate in the prestigious Middle School All-American Game held in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. At 6 feet tall and weighing 200 pounds, Hunter, soon to join the Thunder Ridge Titans, has been passionate about football since childhood, finding his niche as a defensive lineman.
Hunter’s father, Aaron Portmann, submitted game footage and statistics that led to this notable selection, highlighting his son’s dedication through rigorous training sessions two to three times a week. Aaron expressed immense pride, particularly as Hunter has often played in the shadow of his older brother, Ryder, the varsity quarterback.
During the week-long event, Hunter trained with some of the nation’s top athletes and coaches. He competed on the “Black Team” against the “White Team,” which narrowly won 14-6. Hunter, wearing number 92, showcased his skills as a defensive tackle while also getting opportunities as an offensive guard. Although he didn’t record a sack, his performance included a tackle for a loss and quarterback hurries, demonstrating his ability to control the line of scrimmage effectively.
This experience was transformative for Hunter, who has struggled with self-confidence. He noted that releasing pressure allowed him to perform his best game yet. Beyond football, the trip offered precious moments with his mother, marking his first visit to Florida since early childhood.
Looking ahead, Hunter is eager to build on this experience and continue gaining visibility, particularly as his brother prepares for college recruitment. Both athletes aspire to make their mark in football, with Hunter determined to enhance his skills in the quest for excellence.
