Marsh Valley Eagles Soar Into Semifinals with Victory Over Cole Valley Christian
EAGLE – The Marsh Valley Eagles have proven their mettle in the South East Idaho Conference tournament, needing two decisive victories over top-seeded Snake River to qualify for the state tournament. Now, as the No. 5 seed in the 4A state tournament, the Eagles continue their strong run, defeating No. 4 Cole Valley Christian 58-52 in Thursday’s opening game.
The match was a fast-paced and physical contest, with the Eagles displaying a strategy full of energy, as expressed by their coach, Chris Ball. "We push it with a lot of energy," he said. The Eagles’ ability to quicken the pace allowed them to build a double-digit lead in the third quarter, reaching a score of 40-29. However, the Chargers, last season’s state runner-up, did not back down easily and managed to close the gap to 51-50 with under three minutes left in the game.
Marsh Valley’s experienced seniors shone under pressure. Justis Whitworth led the team with 19 points, while Kaden Hansen contributed 15 points and eight rebounds, and Eli Hadley added 10 rebounds. "We trust our guys," said Whitworth, emphasizing their solid defensive efforts that were crucial down the stretch.
Entering the semifinals with a five-game winning streak, Marsh Valley is set to face No. 1 Bonners Ferry, a team seeking its third consecutive state title. The semifinal matchup is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Eagle High, where the Eagles aim to continue their impressive journey in the tournament.
