Idaho Vandals Set to Face UC Davis in Key Big Sky Clash

Moscow, Idaho – In a highly anticipated showdown, the Idaho Vandals (4th in FCS) will kick off their Big Sky Conference play against the 14th-ranked UC Davis Aggies this weekend. Both teams enter the match on impressive three-game winning streaks following narrow losses to FBS opponents.

Idaho’s path to success includes notable victories against ranked FCS teams UAlbany and Abilene Christian, making them the first team with two FCS ranked wins this season. Keyshawn James-Newby leads the FCS with 6.5 sacks, showcasing the Vandals’ defensive prowess. Quarterback Jack Wagner, stepping in as a redshirt freshman after the injury of Jack Layne, has performed admirably, winning his first three starts and not throwing an interception.

Conversely, UC Davis boasts one of the nation’s strongest aerial offenses, ranking 11th in passing yards with an average of 272.8 yards per game. Idaho native Lan Larison stands out as a top running back for the Aggies, who also feature a formidable defense ranked 24th in total defense.

The match, dubbed the FCS Game of the Week by Stats Perform, will take place at UC Davis Health Stadium, which recently attracted over 14,000 fans. The Vandals’ experience, especially in the trenches with seven returning offensive linemen, might prove advantageous against the Aggies, who find themselves navigating a challenging defensive landscape.

As both teams aim to solidify their standings within the Big Sky, fans can expect a tactical and intense battle. Idaho, on track to exceed its past road performance under Coach Jason Eck, looks to continue its upward momentum as it faces a UC Davis team eager to extend its winning streak.
