Garden City, ID – A man faces multiple charges following an altercation with law enforcement during an arrest on Saturday. The incident unfolded when officers responded to reports of a disturbance and approached the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Zachary J. McDonald.
According to police, McDonald became aggressive during the arrest, kicking and biting officers. In a shocking escalation, he also attempted to grab a police K9, prompting officers to take immediate action to ensure the safety of both the dog and the personnel involved.
Witnesses reported seeing McDonald exhibiting erratic behavior, leading to 911 calls that alerted authorities to his presence. Upon arrival, officers attempted to de-escalate the situation. However, their attempts were met with hostility as McDonald resisted arrest, resulting in a physical confrontation.
The officers, trained in conflict resolution and self-defense, managed to restrain McDonald after a brief struggle. Several officers sustained minor injuries due to his violent actions. Fortunately, the K9, trained for apprehension and protection, was unharmed during the ordeal.
McDonald was eventually taken into custody and charged with several offenses, including assaulting an officer and interfering with a police service animal. He is currently awaiting a hearing, where further legal proceedings will determine his fate.
