David Nuhn: Guiding The Vandals to New Heights as Men’s Golf Head Coach
Moscow native David Nuhn returned to the University of Idaho as the men’s golf head coach in December 2015, fulfilling a lifelong dream. A Vandal himself, having graduated in 2010, Nuhn aims to positively impact both the school and the local community.
Since taking the reins, Nuhn has led the Vandals to impressive achievements, including 24 all-conference awards and recognition for four Big Sky Freshmen of the Year. In his first semester, he guided the team to a conference championship, Idaho’s second consecutive title, earning him the Big Sky Coach of the Year accolade. Under his leadership, the Vandals recorded a remarkable -22 under tournament score and a -17 round at the Big Sky Championship.
In addition to on-course success, Nuhn emphasizes academic achievement; his teams have consistently earned the designation of Golf Coaches Association of America All-Academic teams. Over the years, he has produced standout athletes such as Ryan Porch, Enrique Marin, and more recently, Colt Sherrell, Jose Suryadinata, Tommy McKenzie, and Joe Sykes, each earning Big Sky Freshman of the Year honors from 2021 to 2023.
Nuhn’s guidance led to two regular-season wins in the 2022-2023 season, highlighted by triumphs over strong competitors like Michigan State and Oregon State at the Chambers Bay-Redhawk Invitational.
Prior to his role at Idaho, Nuhn gained relevant experience as an assistant at Washington State and earned his PGA of America certification, while also playing professionally. Nuhn, who holds a Bachelor’s in Political Science, finds fulfillment in mentoring young athletes, helping them grow both in golf and life. He resides in Moscow with his wife and three children, continuing the family legacy at his beloved alma mater.
