Truck Explosion Shakes Chicago Suburb, Driver Survives with Minor Injuries
Addison, IL — May 24, 2025: A shocking incident occurred in the Chicago suburb of Addison when a Penske truck exploded unexpectedly, an event captured on home security cameras at around 8:40 a.m. The explosion sent debris flying across the street, creating a scene of chaos as pieces of the truck scattered for up to two blocks.
Fortunately, the driver managed to walk away from the explosion with only minor injuries. However, the blast caused significant damage to four nearby homes, leaving one uninhabitable. Eyewitness accounts reveal that part of the truck’s wall struck a residential structure, pushing it inward by two to four feet.
Initial investigations suggest that a leaking propane tank being transported in the truck may have caused the explosion. Police have classified the incident as accidental. A spokesperson for Penske confirmed that the vehicle was rented for moving household items, emphasizing that hazardous materials are prohibited in their rental agreement.
Photographs from the scene depicted a variety of household items, including grills, chairs, and tables, strewn across the street, highlighting the force of the explosion.
"Penske will cooperate fully with any further investigation by law enforcement," the spokesperson stated. "Under Penske’s rental agreement, explosive, flammable, or otherwise hazardous materials should not be transported in a consumer rental moving truck."
