Idaho Football Faces Uncertainty After Coach Jason Eck’s Departure
MOSCOW, Idaho – Following their recent elimination from the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) playoffs, the Idaho Vandals football team is grappling with significant changes as head coach Jason Eck transitions to New Mexico. Eck signed a five-year contract with the Lobos on Saturday, leaving behind a program he revitalized over his three-year tenure.
Eck, 47, led Idaho to a commendable 26-13 record and three consecutive playoff appearances, achieving a notable quarterfinal finish just days ago. His leadership marked a turnaround for a program that hadn’t seen a winning season since 2016, when they secured a victory in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. Under his guidance, Idaho has rebuilt momentum, culminating in a strong 2023 season with a 10-4 record.
However, the news of Eck’s departure has precipitated further upheaval, as starting quarterback Jack Layne and leading wide receiver Jordan Dwyer announced their entry into the transfer portal shortly thereafter.
