Nationwide Movement Ensures No Child Sleeps on the Floor
TWIN FALLS, Idaho — Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP), a nonprofit organization founded by Luke Mickelson in his garage in Kimberly, Idaho, is on a mission to provide beds for children in need. With the motto "No kid sleeps on the floor in our town," SHP focuses on delivering beds to children aged 3 to 17 who do not have one of their own.
Tyler Bringhurst, president of the Twin Falls chapter, emphasizes that their efforts not only benefit the children but also provide peace of mind to their parents. Since its establishment in 2012, SHP has expanded to nearly 400 chapters nationwide, distributing over 256,000 beds to families in need. The Twin Falls chapter has contributed approximately 1,400 beds to local children.
To increase their reach further, SHP is hosting a community bed-building event on June 7th at the CSI Eldon Evans Expo Center, aiming to construct around 130 beds with the help of local sponsors and volunteers. Bringhurst encourages community members to participate, stating, "Check our Facebook page for more details about the event, but come out and help us build beds."
The beds are designed for safety and sturdiness, complete with guardrails and provided with a mattress and bedding. This initiative hopes to make a significant impact in the Magic Valley area by ensuring every child has a safe place to sleep.
