Vandal Hoops to Face Summit League Rivals in Big Sky Challenge
Moscow, Idaho — The Idaho Vandals are gearing up for an exciting 2024-25 basketball season as the Big Sky Conference unveiled the lineup for the third annual Big Sky-Summit Challenge. This inter-conference event features nine teams from Big Sky, excluding Sacramento State, who will engage in home-and-home matchups with Summit League opponents.
The Vandal men’s basketball team is set to face off against North Dakota and South Dakota State, promising competitive gameplay after the Summit League claimed victory in the first two iterations of the Challenge. The Vandals will host North Dakota on December 3 in the ICCU Arena before traveling to Brookings, South Dakota, to take on the Jackrabbits on December 6.
Idaho will look to build on its performance from last year’s Challenge, where the team secured a win against Kansas City, highlighted by strong performances from Jack Payne, Kristian Gonzalez, and Tyler Linhardt. With North Dakota’s recent record of 12-21 and a commendable showing against Alabama, they pose a significant threat. The Fighting Hawks demonstrated their prowess by defeating SDSU 85-69 in the Summit League playoffs, showcasing Treysen Eaglestaff’s extraordinary scoring ability.
Meanwhile, the Jackrabbits, finishing the previous season with a 20-12 record, including strong conference performances, will also be a formidable opponent for the Vandals. Both adversaries went 1-1 during last year’s Challenge, setting the stage for thrilling matchups this season.
The Vandals’ home game against North Dakota and all Big Sky home contests will be broadcast on ESPN+, while away games will be accessible via the Summit League Network. Tip-off times are still to be announced, as excitement builds around this competitive basketball showdown.
