Idaho Renews Football Coach Jason Eck’s Contract Until 2028

University of Idaho Football Coach Jason Eck Signs Contract Extension Through 2028

Moscow, ID – On June 13, the University of Idaho officially announced a two-year contract extension for head football coach Jason Eck, solidifying his position through the 2028 season. This agreement marks a significant milestone for a program that has experienced back-to-back Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) playoff appearances, something unseen since 1994-95.

In just two seasons, Eck has led the Vandals to a commendable 16-9 overall record, with a standout 12-4 in the Big Sky Conference—outpacing the early achievements of the legendary Dennis Erickson. “I like it here, I like living here and I like coaching this team,” Eck remarked during a press conference, emphasizing how the extension fosters stability crucial for recruiting and staff retention.

Eck, who took the helm in 2022, originally signed a contract with a base salary of $175,000 and performance-based incentives totaling over $375,000. Under the new terms, his base remains the same, but now with potential earnings reaching $462,000 and a buyout clause of $525,000.

As the program faces offseason challenges—losing several coaches and key players to transfers and graduation—the extension aims to provide the necessary continuity in an ever-evolving college football landscape. Eck is determined to build on the recent success, eyeing a Big Sky title and an FCS championship.

This extension also positions Eck to join a select group of head coaches who have led Idaho for six years or more. “We can’t always sell being the underdog,” Eck noted, emphasizing the need to embrace the expectations that come with success. With this renewed commitment, the Vandals aim to stampede through their conference and continue their upward trajectory.
