Tiron Alexander, a 35-year-old man, was convicted of scamming 120 free flights by posing as a flight attendant across four airlines, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida. Between 2018 and 2024, Alexander exploited the free flight programs designed for airline crew members, successfully booking flights through an online application process that required false employment details, which he fabricated for seven different airlines.
Federal prosecutors highlighted that Alexander managed to fly 34 times with one airline while using about 30 different fake badge numbers. He also impersonated a flight attendant with three other carriers, managing to deceive the system significantly. This extensive impersonation was investigated by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
Despite claiming to work for an airline based in Dallas since November 2015, Alexander was never employed as a pilot or flight attendant. His indictment from October outlined charges of wire fraud and unauthorized access to secure airport areas, both of which carry substantial penalties. The maximum sentences for these charges are 20 years and 10 years in prison, respectively, along with the potential for three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.
Sentencing for Alexander is scheduled for August 25, with public defenders yet to comment on his case. The conviction raises important issues about security and fraud within the aviation industry, highlighting vulnerabilities in the system that allowed Alexander to exploit it over several years.
