Kuna Aims to Become a Sports Tourism Hub with New Youth Complex
KUNA, Idaho — A significant shift is on the horizon for Kuna, as plans for a massive youth sports complex are set to make the city a center for sports tourism. Spearheaded by David McMenomey, founder of True Gritt Sports, this ambitious project aims to give local young athletes a dedicated space to compete, ultimately reducing the need for families to travel long distances for tournaments.
"We’re building the largest youth sports complex in the northwest right here in Kuna," McMenomey stated. The proposed True Gritt Sports Complex will include eight outdoor turf fields suitable for various sports year-round, alongside a sprawling 200,000-square-foot indoor facility. The indoor space will feature eight full-sized basketball courts, which can also transform into 16 volleyball courts or 32 Pickleball courts.
In addition to athletic facilities, the development plans encompass a hotel, restaurants, a gas station, family entertainment venues, and an RV park, optimizing family stays during tournaments. With 77 acres earmarked for the complex, the City of Kuna has offered 20 acres off Meridian Road, complemented by an additional 57 acres secured from a private entity.
The next steps involve navigating local zoning and planning requirements before presenting the proposal to the City Council for approval. The estimated cost of the project ranges from $90 million to $120 million, with hopes that corporate sponsors will foot the bill.
Once operational, the complex is expected to become a gathering place for young athletes. "It will provide them with something to do in Kuna," McMenomey added, envisioning a vibrant hub for local youth engagement and sports activities.
