Thousands Rally in Boise for National "No Kings" Protest Against Trump
BOISE (Idaho Statesman) — On Saturday, thousands of Idahoans gathered in downtown Boise for the national “No Kings” protests, voicing their opposition to President Donald Trump and his administration amidst sweltering heat. Protesters filled the steps of the Idaho State Capitol and spilled into nearby streets, brandishing anti-Trump placards and chanting slogans.
Adrienne Evans, executive director of United Vision for Idaho, emphasized the collective frustration, stating, "We gathered here today because something has gone very wrong." The speeches, which lasted about an hour, touched on issues such as trans rights, labor union support, and the plight of Palestine, alongside calls for bipartisan cooperation. “We’re not here to protest, we’re here to build,” Evans added.
Protests were also slated for cities across Idaho, including Nampa and Idaho Falls, coinciding with Trump’s hosting of a lavish military parade in Washington, D.C., to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army, his birthday, and Flag Day. The event is estimated to cost between $25 million to $45 million, featuring thousands of soldiers and military vehicles, despite recent cuts to government funding affecting numerous federal programs and employees in Idaho.
The "No Kings" movement aims to be a nationwide expression of defiance against Trump’s policies and administrative decisions. Protests occurred not only in every U.S. state but also in select international locations, including Canada and Europe.
In light of recent political violence, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz called for peaceful resolutions following an assassination attempt on Democratic lawmakers in Minnesota. Walz urged, “We must all, in Minnesota and across the country, stand against all forms of political violence.” The protests reflect growing tensions as Americans grapple with deepening political divides.
