Idaho Vandals Kick Off Spring Practice Under New Head Coach
MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho Vandals ushered in a new era as first-year Head Coach Thomas Ford launched the team’s spring practice on a bright Tuesday morning outside the P1FCU Kibbie Dome. Enthusiasm soared as Ford noted, "Day one, it felt great. The energy was really good today, the guys came out with a purpose." He expressed pride in witnessing the culmination of their hard work and the opportunity to lead them.
During this initial practice, Ford emphasized key focus areas, including player health and competition evaluation, particularly for the offensive line, quarterback, linebacker, and defensive end positions. Charting a path for the season, he aims to cultivate a culture where athletes see each day as an opportunity for growth.
Among the team’s senior leaders, Nate Azzopardi and Eli Cummings stood out. Ford highlighted their invaluable role in embodying his vision and message within the team dynamic. Cummings, who was awarded the day’s "battle axe" for top performance, shared his excitement about returning to full speed. He remarked on a stronger sense of brotherhood within the team despite recent roster changes.
The Vandals welcomed 11 new transfers to bolster their lineup, including players from notable programs and junior colleges. New additions include Lonyatta Alexander Jr. (Montana State, WR), Maurice Heims (Washington, DL), and Khaled Rawls (NE Mississippi CC, DB), among others.
Spring practices will continue, with the next session scheduled for Thursday, March 27, alongside Pro Day activities featuring six Vandals aiming to showcase their skills.
